A Travesty: Expo Milan 2015. A massive waste of public money

Expo2015

Italian politicians, local authorities and the general population are under the unlikely illusion that the Expo 2015 will bring a wave of up-and-coming entrepreneurs willing to make extraordinary investments in a country where widespread corruption is only second to Romania. [Does that ring any bell?]

Do I see a cloud cuckoo land here? Or is it the urge of camorra leaders to have carte blanche amid political day-dreaming and blatant connivance? It is, by all means, a sad déjà vu, which does infer a lame penchant of this country for utopistic and kafkaesque visions.

In the Bel Paese it’s always too late, but never too early. The benefit of hindsight here seems to be the only tool by which one can do penance (or perish?), ie repent at leisure under the aegis of the unflinching statute of limitations (prescrizione). That is to say, one never ends up in jail unless one gets caught groping in the tube or pickpocketing a stingy archbishop, in which case you may be in for a stint at the pillory, as well. Keep off the clergy, mate!

The whole process does imply, on closer examination, a very simple yet byzantine framework of ill-doing, which is meant, in essence, for squandering public money and taunting honest citizens. Invaluable food for thought for organised crime which is so nourished and kept alive.

As I said a million times, this country ought to be placed in bloody receivership. The sooner, the better. But then again, we’ve seen it all before, haven’t we?

Not quite what one would expect of a G7 country. Much worse is, however, the Government preposterous pretence of ignoring the facts.
